How to Repair a Dead Car Key

Dead Key Fob Batteries

Broken Key Loop
One of my MK5 keyfobs has broken off the small key ring loop at the top of the loop where it joins the keyfob. It's made of plastic or metal that is soft. I've drilled a hole, and wet-sanded it to make it stronger, but I suspect the problem isn't resolved by that.
I've also wrapped the broken portion of the ring in clear tape, but it isn't doing any good. It's a shame, because I use the tiny split rings to keep my keys in the right place.
